Two years ago, we witnessed the devastating loss of some of Sydney's most historic and majestic 'Anzac figs' along the edge of the park. Yet despite the public outcry, two weeks ago we saw the felling of yet another historic fig tree overnight, one which had promised to be retained.

Sadly, the tree carnage is set to continue, with RMS plans for 'road upgrades' along Moore Park. This will see more historic trees felled along South Dowling Street and near Anzac Parade, while endangering the longevity of the trees along Dacey Avenue.

In addition, the NSW Government is also pushing ahead with a $730 Million funding package to knock down & rebuild Sydney Football Stadium. According to the Sydney Cricket Ground Trust recent communications this is likely to see a 'spillover' into Moore Park, thereby seeing teh loss of much needed passive recreational space.

I am contacting you to raise my concerns about the government’s plans for Sydney Football Stadium, and road upgrades being planned by the RMS which will impact Moore Park.
 
As you know two years ago we witnessed the needless destruction of many of Sydney's most historic trees at Moore Park.  Yet despite the public outcry, the carnage continues, with the felling of yet another historic 1800's fig tree near Anzac Parade more recently.

In addition, more historic and significant trees will be destroyed if plans by the RMS go ahead.  The plans which feed traffic from Westconnex’s controversial Sydney Portal to Moore Park will see the loss of trees along South Dowling Street, and near Anzac Parade.

Not only do the upgrade works induce traffic into the Moore Park area unnecessarily, but the works also jeopardise the longevity of the canopy of trees along Dacey Avenue (as a result of the root pruning that will need to be undertaken). Critically too, the offset scheme, does not adequately address the loss of mature canopies, which can take up to 100 years plus to replace.

I am also concerned about plans to fund the demolition and rebuild Sydney Football Stadium. The decision does not reflect good value to the public purse, particularly when there are far bigger priorities for NSW, nor demonstrate environmental leadership.  These plans are also likely to see a spill-over into Moore Park with the loss of more trees and much needed passive recreational green space.

As my MP, I urge you to make representations to the government highlighting my concerns.
